How does Undo and Redo work?
Undo and Redo are powerful tools in the Universe platform that give you the flexibility to experiment with your edits, knowing that you can easily revert or reapply changes. Think of them as your creative safety nets when working on your website.
The Undo button (depicted by an arrow pointing to the left) enables you to reverse your most recent changes, while the Redo button (an arrow pointing to the right) allows you to reapply any changes that you've undone. These buttons become solid when there are changes available to undo or redo; otherwise, they'll appear grayed out.
Please note that the Undo and Redo buttons will not be visible when editing a block. To undo or redo, close the block palette and return to the editor.
Theme Updates
It's important to be aware that after making theme updates that apply site-wide, all previous edits are locked in and can't be undone. So, before you save your changes, make sure you're happy with them!
After Publishing
Once you've hit that 'Publish' button, the actions taken during that editing session can't automatically be undone.
After Closing the App
Just like after publishing, closing the app means the undo and redo actions from that session are no longer available. However, if you have unpublished changes that you wish to discard, you can do so by following the instructions in this article.
Collaborator Changes
If you're working with a team, it's important to note that changes made by collaborators can't be undone. Team collaboration is a great way to bring diverse ideas to your site, but remember to communicate and coordinate your edits!
Undo + Redo on Mac App
For those of you using the Universe Mac App, you have an additional tool at your disposal: keyboard shortcuts! Press Command
+ Z
to undo and Command
+ Y
to redo. These shortcuts also work on iPad and iPhone when using a Bluetooth keyboard, making your editing process that much smoother.
Undo + Redo on Web App
Undo + redo works on the web app as well! The undo and redo buttons are similarly located at the top of the screen.
Similarly, for users on the Universe Web App, you can use the same keyboard shortcuts to undo (Command/CTRL
+ Z
) or redo (Command/CTRL
+ Y
) your changes.
While the Undo and Redo features are a great aid in the creative process, remember to take your time with edits and be sure of your changes before saving or publishing. Happy building on Universe!
