If you see the error: The operation couldn’t be completed. (kCFErrorDomainCFNetwork error -1202.) this means Apple is not able to establish a secure connection to Universe servers because the security certificate is untrusted on your device. You should not need to manually trust our certificate as it is certified with Apple and the trusted chain. There are several common reasons this can happen and possible solutions.
- Some school, business, government, and public wifi networks block personal websites or tools like Universe. You can try switching wifi networks or using cellular if possible on your device.
- If you are using iCloud Private Relay, another VPN, or a firewall it might be interfering with your connection to Universe. Try turning off the protection temporarily to see if it allows you to use Universe normally.
- If you have any overzealous connecting blocking software like malware prevention or an ad blocker it might be interfering with your connection to Universe. Try turning off the protection temporarily to see if it allows you to use Universe normally.
- You may also have similar security software running on your wifi router. Try turning off any features like this on your router to see if it removes the error.
- Some internet service providers install overzealous security software on their modems or their own servers. Most provide some control over this in your account or internet service dashboard. Try searching Google for your internet company's name and site blocking to find a guide on how to turn this off.
- If your operating system is significantly out of date it might not be able to establish a modern secure connection. This should be rare as even operating systems several years old should work. But if you are on a particularly old device, try updating iOS, iPadOS, or macOS to see if it solves your problem.
- If your version of the Universe app is significantly out of date it may also no longer be able to securing connect to Universe servers. Again this should be rare as we support Universe versions several years old. This guide can show you How to ensure your Universe app is up to date.
